Gerrymandering

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court recently ruled that a heavily gerrymandered map was unconstitutional because it deprived Pennsylvanians of fair representation. Sadly, however, the Constitution in question was that of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Our federal Constitution isn’t quite clear enough on this point, and almost since day one, representatives have been choosing their voters rather than the other way around.

This must stop. District lines should be drawn by independent, non-partisan commissions, nationwide. A handful of states already use this model, and their results are promising.
